bingham-canyon-mine
The Bingham Canyon open-pit copper mine in Utah — 1.2km deep, 4km wide, producing ~25% of US copper, and visible from space since before Landsat existed. ICEYE X-band Spotlight SAR at sub-meter resolution captures the pit wall geometry, tailings pond extent, and the disturbed texture zone left by the 2013 Manefay Slide — the largest non-volcanic landslide in North American recorded history, which removed ~130 million tonnes of material from the NW wall. CAVEAT (2026-08-24): the scene this recipe reads does not actually cover Bingham Canyon. Its footprint is roughly 97 km west of the pit, over open desert in Tooele County, so the pit walls, tailings ponds and Manefay Slide described above are not present in the imagery. The compute graph is a valid SAR texture and edge chain and will run, but its outputs describe desert terrain, not the mine.

The contract
Read from this recipe's own declarations — parameters:,
outputs:, requires:, and the ops its layers name. Not from its
style blocks and not from any benchmark: a colour ramp is not a contract, and a measured
run is evidence about one AOI rather than a domain.
Parameters
The legacy dialect has no typed parameter schema. Read the folia.yaml for what this recipe takes; nothing here can type-check it.
Outputs
| output | kind | layer | what it is |
|---|---|---|---|
primary |
not declared | ['result/backscatter-map', 'result/pit-boundary-vector'] |
|
show_your_work |
not declared | ['compute/wall-texture'] |
Capabilities it requires
The legacy dialect has no requires: block.
Where it runs
- Browser preview runs here every layer has a browser kernel and a source the browser can fetch
- Local CLI (folia run) runs here runs locally through the legacy (no spec_version) parser
- Operated fleet (POST /plan, /run) runs here legacy dialect: a lock binds by the cut's layer names, not by digest
