CitizenScience.gov — Federal Crowdsourcing & Citizen Science Catalog (decommissioned)

Static directory of US federal community-science projects, hosted by GSA's Technology Transformation Services (18F lineage) on Federalist / cloud.gov Pages as a Jekyll site. Authorized by the Crowdsourcing and Citizen Science Act of 2016 (15 USC §3724, enacted 2017-01-06). Catalog peaked at ~504 project entries across ~26 agencies (NPS 155 / NSF 55 / NOAA 46 / EPA 40 / NASA 22 / USGS 18 / USDA 14 / USFS 23). Each project was a Jekyll Markdown file in `_catalog-projects/` with ~20 fields (project_name, agency_sponsor, geographic_scope as free text only — no lat/lon, no bbox), emitted at build time as data.json (DCAT-US 1.1 / Project Open Data 1.1), feed.json (JSON Feed v1), and feed.csv. Never adopted PPSR Core / STAC / Darwin Core / Zenodo DOIs. SciStarter cross-reference was a boolean flag only (no shared project ID). 18F (the GSA team that maintained this catalog) was eliminated on 2025-02-28 via a 1am ET email from Deputy Administrator Thomas Shedd to all 18F staff, framed as a Reduction in Force "under direction from the White House" — DOGE action under EO 14158 (Jan 20, 2025), NOT a citsci-specific named EO. The GSA repo was archived on 2025-08-13; the live domain now 301-redirects to a thin USA.gov stub at usa.gov/citizen-science (no catalog, no API, references SciStarter and Zooniverse as successors). 15 USC §3724 remains in force but the GSA implementation layer is gone. Cataloged here as a HISTORICAL SNAPSHOT so Folia's federation view acknowledges the bus-factor exit and re-routes intent to SciStarter.
