FLUXNET — Global Eddy Covariance Flux Tower Federation
Global federation of regional eddy-covariance networks measuring ecosystem- atmosphere exchanges of CO2, water vapor, and energy. Not a single operator but an umbrella that coordinates regional sub-networks: AmeriFlux (Americas, managed by LBNL), ICOS (Europe), AsiaFlux, OzFlux (Australia/NZ), CarboAfrica, ChinaFLUX, and others. The FLUXNET2015 release (~212 sites, harmonized via ONEFlux processing) is the canonical reference dataset for ecosystem flux cal/val and underpins most satellite GPP / ET / energy-balance products. AmeriFlux now ships per-site DOIs under CC-BY-4.0 (BASE pipeline, Chu et al. 2023). The federation as a whole spans ~900+ registered towers globally.
