Physiological response of vegetation to adverse conditions — drought, heat, nutrient deficiency, disease, pest pressure. Manifests in reduced photosynthetic activity, leaf moisture loss, pigment shifts, and altered canopy structure. Captured by combinations of moisture, chlorophyll, and pigment indices (NDMI, NMDI, PRI, MCARI, NDRE) rather than a single spectral signature.
