Rate of biomass production by heterotrophs — herbivore, detritivore, and
carnivore consumption converted to body tissue. In-situ measurement is
fragmented across terrestrial herbivory studies, aquatic zooplankton
monitoring (GLEON, ICES), and FAO fisheries catch statistics.
